My kids and I are on a road trip, which we started yesterday. After we drove about 200 miles on the freeway at fairly high speeds, I noticed a marked vibration or shaking that I can feel through the steering wheel - I noticed this when we exited and reduced speed. I can really feel it now when we are at a low speed but it smooths out when we pick up speed. We are at our destination for a few days and I want to have it looked at, but being in a strange place I don't want someone to take advantage of me, and I don't even know the terminology to tell them what's wrong!! Please, in your answer, talk to me like I am a 5 year old because that is about my level of understanding of auto matters. Thanks!

I would say that you may need a front end alignment or some ball joints or even tie rod ends, could be any of these. dont let them tell you you that your struts are causing it. its gotta be one of the three that i mentioned at the top of this post

Can be a tire with a shifted belt as well....check tire pressure! Have them inspected at a tire store.

Thanks again! It turned out to be the tires!! Very simple, but I wouldn't have thought of that. I ended up taking it to a AAA-recommended mechanic, and the first thing they said to me was "It could be your tires".....turned out all the guys working there used to work at tire stores. Anyway, they didn't charge me anything but determined that I needed new front tires, so I went over across the street to the tire store and they fixed me right up. I would've posted this sooner but we ended up switching hotels, and I didn't have internet at the new one.
THanks again, this is a terrific service!!!!
