My son drove into some water not knowing it was as deep as it was, and his car stopped . He had about 5 inches of water on his floor board the engine need to be replaced now cause the rods in the engine busted from the pressure. The insurance says they are going to replace the engine and fix what is now wrong with the car , also detail the inside. He will have a 1 year warranty on parts and labor. How likely is it to be ok after this damage. Or is there a way we can get them to just total it?

Chances are things will be fine. I would want the carpet removed to properly dry so there isn't a mold issue with it in the future. IF they are replacing the engine, that will be fine.

Keep in mind, if the water was deep enough, it could have damaged door speakers, power window motors... You may want to mention to the insurance co that there may be damage you are not aware of yet.
