I have had a few problems creep up in what has been a very good car.
First power 3 out of 4 windows stopped working. Then, while driving the tachometer and radio stopped for a second then back on. Then while on cruise, the cruise control dropped and the tachometer and radio went off for a second and the light for the traction control system came on for a second The last thing is that the shift lock mechanism is not releasing from park.

Could all three of these be related ? I had a mechanic tell me it might be the BCM when I was on vacation.

Thanks

Aubrey

Hello and thanks for donating

Is your check engine light on or coming on during any of these issues? These components are not related to one another as far as sharing circuits so I wouldn't think it is wiring issue. A faulty PCM could cause issues like this but it's never a good (or cheap) way to go by just throwing a new PCM at it.

does the engine light come on for the bulb check when first turning key? if not then it's a good indicator that either the engine light bulb is missing or that the computer is faulty.

Thanks for your help.

the PCM , powertrain control module. switch it out with a known good one from a local junkyard see if it fixes the issues.

One last question. I wanted to be sure, another mechanic had suggested the body control module, when I mentioned the radio and instrument panel, but you think it wis the powertrain control module. I just don't want to buy the wrong one. Actually two questions, since the check engine light is blown out, do you think it is actually on and I could take the care and see if there are any error codes?
Thanks for your help and I will use you guys again.. and donate more

you could remove the instrument cluster and see if the bulb is blown first, if it is then replace it then pull the codes that are stored. most likely though, if it is a faulty computer, the bulb will be good and its just not showing up , thats a symptom of a bad computer. i did forget about the instrument panel and radio issues you were having so yes it would be the BCM , thats my fault.
