2001 Ford Taurus Oil Light

I would suspect and replace oil pressure switch as a 1st step
if that didn’t help oil pump would be the next step

How do I test the oil pressure switch?

Where is the oil pressure switch and what tools are required to replace it?

If I have to replace the oil pump, do I have to drop the exhaust and any cross members to get to the oil pan? What else is involved in replacing the pump?

I have to drive 150 miles and I want to make sure I have what tools I need.

I would suggest getting the new oil pressure switch it require a special socket it just twist off few turns and its out you can try deep sockets on the new switch if dont have the special socket you need to know engine size at the part store it should be priced under $20 for you to test oil pressure you need a set of special gauges remove oil pressure switch install in its place and start and drive the car watch oil pressure

Took about 10 minutes of looking at the diagram, the engine, etc, to realize the diagram was showing the back of the engine, not the front.

Once I got it located, it was a five minute job.
