2000 Ford Taurus is it worth it

Transmission problem
2000 Ford Taurus Automatic 124000 miles

I purchased my car 3 years ago for 2000, knowing i was going to need to replace the fuel pump, I just replaced the pump for $500. Every thing was fine for a couple of weeks no more stalling. I was driving all the sudden car stop moving no matter how hard i was on the gas. I am told probally trans. how much would a rebuilt or new transmission cost, do you think the price I paid for the fuel pump was accurate? What Would you recomend. thank you

First, it's hard to say if it's worth fixing without seeing the car. As far as the trans, was the engine reving when you hit the gas? Did you check the trans fluid?

As far as the pump, the part should have been around 150.00. That leaves 350.00 in labor which sound high to me, but I'm not sure the labor rates where you live. It's about a 3 hour job.

Let me know about the other things and we'll go from there.

In response to what i paid for the fuel pump i live in philadelphia, PA. Yes the engine was reving just no moving, I coasted off the road. No noticable leaking, I just had all my fluids changed. It was also put on a machine everything ame up good except fuel pump, woulndn't trans show up on that?

My rebuilt trans cost me 2000, 95 trans am, and i have seen them rebuilt for a ranger at 1500. So you are looking at close to 2000. You said you bought the car 3 years ago knowing the fuel pump need replaced (and you did pay a little too much but not a lot) yet you sound as if you just had it done. The only way anyone could say if 2k for a trans is worth it or not is to understand the condition of the car. Is it tuned up regularly, has it been driven hard, have the filters been changed accordingly? All these things need to be taken into consideration before any major thing is done to fix a broken car. Can you afford a new one? how is the interoir? do you like the car? It does sound to me as if the car has not been taken care of properly, but what was the person you baught it from like? If your job is secure it might be time to trade that in, a dealer will give you 700-1000 depnding on.....the condition other than the trans. You have to decide if it is worth fixing

I live on the other end of the state from you. To me it seems high, but the average labor rate in Philli is higher than Pittsburgh.

As far as the scan, if there was a sensor problem, it could have shown up on a scan. However, if this happened all at once, it sounds like either the torque converter or the front pump went bad. To be sure, a trans tech will need to inspect the trans. Just make sure the ATF level is full. Let me know what you find out after it's inspected.
