I have a 2000 Ford Taurus with the 3.0 liter 24 Valve DOHC Duratec engine. Lately I have been getting a whining noise from underneath the hood when decelerating. I have been told by the local Ford dealer that this is caused by a bearing in the final drive and I have to replace the whole transmission to fix the problem. Cost $3700. Is there any way to just replace the bearing itself or am I stuck with the larger repair. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

If tranny to come out and torn apart to replace a bearing I would have it all rebuilt
The price that you have is higher than what a normal rate should be and I would check around for a better price
