2000 Ford Taurus BRAKE LIGHTS NOT WORKING PREVENTING GEAR S

2000 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic

None of the brake lights are working preventing the gear shift from coming out of PARK. I can move it using a work around.

Will replacing the brake light switch or stop lamp switch correct the problem? Are they the same thing?
