Engine Mechanical problem
1999 Ford Taurus 6 cyl Front Wheel Drive Automatic 140k+ miles

I am trying replace the alternator in my 99 taurus, which should be an easy change. But when I tried to release the tension on the tensioner to remove the belt from the alternator, the tensioner will not move. I used a 15mm wrench like the book said and tried to rotate the tension pulley clockwise (since it is a OHV engine) like the book said, but nothing. It wont move at all. Am I doing something wrong, or is it a bad tensioner?

It doesn't sound like you're doing anything wrong. Does it appear that you are turning it in correct direction to loosten the belt? (Don't get mad but I have to ask) is the tool you are using hitting anyting and are you on the pulley bolt? THey are a pain to gain access to sometimes and you may not even realize you are resting against something.

Let me know.
