Leaks fluid out of the bottom near where the bell housing/transmission join. There is a black rubber that looks like it might be a covering for a seal and it appears to be coming from around this black rubber. If it is a seal, what would be a good guess estimate for repairs or will so type of transmission sealer help the problem. It is leaking a quart of fluid about every 100-200 miles.

The transmission R&R will take about 8 HR (check local labour rates) the seal will be around $25.00 there abouts and you will have to allow for some oil replacement, but saying that, if the seal is leaking due to other problems apart form just being worn, costs will increase accordingly. this will be unknown until the transmission is removed, i do not advocate the use of stop leak fluids, they can do more harm than good.

From my description of the leak, do you think it is the seal or maybe something else causing the leak?
I am totally new to the area where I live and I know no one to trust at this point. Give me your best guess as to what my problem actually is please. Thank you

Hi there,

If there is oil leaking from the bottom of the bell housing it will be the front transmission / torque converter seal if red oil, or if engine oil the rear main oil seal on the back of the crank shaft, both will require the removal of the transmission , both will be around the same price if just a seal problem.
