1998 Ford Taurus My taurus will not shift out of park

I cannot get my car to shift out of park. I tried pumping the brakes. this did not work. it dosen't do this when i take it to my mechanic. It will shift once in a while. Help.[/quote:e1ea181597]

There is a one or two switches behind the brake peddal, I'm not sure if that model uses the brake light switch as a park sensor also. I think it's just one switch. It's the one that tells the transmission that the brakes are on and to shift out of park.
