1997 Ford Taurus transmission fluid leak

My car is leaking tranny fluid but not always when I take short trips there are no leaks but when I drive for say more than a hour at a time it starts to leak at a pretty good pace it leaking from on top of the transmission down the back in between oil pan and tranny pan on the oil pan side. thank you i took it to the transmission shop but it was not leaking at that time.

This sounds like the fluid may be foaming. There is a vent at the top of the transmission. If oil is foaming, it can be forced out the vent. There are a few possible causes of this:
Transmission could have too much or too little oil.
Planetary gearset could be failing.
Could have the wrong oil in the trans.
Air could be drawn in through a bad seal.

Try checking the oil when it is leaking. Check for foaming. Make sure dipstick is fully seated.
