hello, i have a 1997 v-6 ford taurus that idle really rough 95% of the time. other than idle the car runs fine. i have replaced the spark plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, car has done this for years, recently it started giving me code P0420. a car mechanic told me that i had to replace all 4 o2 sensors. i doubt that is true. is there a way that a regular joe like me can test the sensors? if i fix this i will still have a rough idle because it idled rough before the mil came on. what could be the culprit of the rough idle, the car does not leak anything at all. thanks.

Hi there, these sensors are very hard to test, i don't bother any more because i keep getting different results, if they are the original sensors they are well due to be replaced any way. Faulty O2 sensors will cause the ECU to run rich so this well could be the problem with your car.
