Hi,
The other day I got my 1997 Ford Taurus inspected at a dealer that I have been going to for a few years. The car needed some repairs that I did know about and some that I wasn't aware of. I also asked to get the transmission fluid and the filter changed since these cars have a history of problems at 55000 miles. I had the sway bar links replaced at the mechanics suggestion. I actually have two questions. As I was driving out of the repair shop and around town, I noticed a sound if I made a sharp right turn. I did not have this problem prior to having the sway bar links. I immediately took the car back and they checked it out. While they were checking this out, the transmission was leaking a steady stream out of the bell housing of the transmission. They said that I was going to need a new/rebuilt transmission. I did not have a leak prior to taking the car in for inspection. They said this was probably caused by the new transmission filter and that there was more pressure on the transmission. I had a line of transmission fluid following me home. As far as the sound out of the steering goes, they said the steeringbox/gear box? was going to be needed to be replaced. The cost for the transmission would be $1500-$2500. The cost to replace the steering/gear box would be $800-$900. The weird thing about all of this is that it passed inspection. I do not really wiish to put this additional money into this car. Do you think having these repairs done caused these problem? Is there a cheaper solution to this problem. I don't want to be driving and the transmission goes.
Thank You!
