I have an old lady's 95 Taurus wagon 3.0 GL with only 25,000 miles. The car has been taken car of, but when slowing from moderate to highway speed, and especially when turning left, the car will shift into a false neutral or slip, causing revving and then hitting 1st gear pretty hard. If the car is driven very sedately, it is barely noticeable, but happens nevertheless.
I've heard discussion about the VSS ( Vehicle Speed Sensor ) as a possible cause.
As an aside, I had a '91 Taurus Wgn that all-0f-a-sudden went into "hard part failure" with reference to the transmission - this happened at highway speed. The car had 49,000 miles on it so it was covered by warranty - much to the shagrin of the Ford dealer. After the replacement slushbox was installed the car lasted years and over a 100,000 miles.
Do you have ideas about the trans shifting issues and the VSS? Am I headed for a complete trans. failure soon? Do you recommend any other remedial measures such as fluid change?
Thanks,
Jerry
