The lower speeds on my blower fan stopped working and after researching a possible cause I found out it was likely the resistor,I replaced it and the lower speeds worked again however the coils on the new resistor glowed red and began to smoke. Now it appears the new resistor has also failed, wondering what the cause of this may be. Thanks very much

The blower resistor will fail quickly if exposed to an excessive amperage draw. A faulty, binding or overloaded blower motor can cause excessive amperage draw.. Replace the blower motor and resistor as a pair.
