Hey I just brought my car into a local shop after suspecting something may be wrong ( would have trouble getting going in the morning) and they said I had a leak in my transmission line and a leak in my cas line and I needed a tune up and 2 new tires. They quoted me at about $1300. Does this seem right?

Hello,

No, it sound high to me. Just to fix 2 lines a tune up and 2 tires.

Have you noticed and fluids on the ground under your vehicle? A smell of gas?
When was your last tune up?
Do you feel you need the tires that they want to replace.

I'll second that!

But first, let me say a few words about the great tune-up ripoff.

There is NO SUCH THING AS A TUNE UP!!!!!!!

I come from a time when cars had points and carburetors. Tune-up was a periodic maintenance item because these parts wore out, went out of adjustment, and needed maintenance.
Modern technology has eliminated every part of a tune-up except for the spark plugs.

Spark plugs should be changed according to manufacturers recommended maintenance periods. Every 30,000 miles for regular plugs, and every 60,000 for platinums.
Filters are recommended to be replaced at around 20,000 mile intervals.

The prices you were quoted sound unreasonably high to me.
