My Taurus has the 3.8 V-6 and has always passed the required smog test's every 2 years up until now. I guess the state added a Fuel Evaporative Controls Functional category of which, this car Failed.
It passes all other areas of tests, just as it has in previous testing. The new Evaporative test has a fuel cap/hose assembly that goes to their computer whereas the previous tests only used a fuel cap (without a hose).
I'm going to take an educated guess this is going to be something expensive to diagnose and cheap to fix.
Any ideas?
