Hi there, I have recently been battling a weird idle problem with my 1993 Ford Taurus. When we first start the car, it idles very high, and then almost stalls. It does this only in Park and Neutral. Sometimes it even stalls completly and we have to restart it and come across the same problem.

We have checked for vacum leaks, and gone through a whole tune up (plugs, rotor etc.), and even replaced the TPS to no avail. When we put it on the computer, I forget the codes exactly, but TPS out of range, and something about the Fuel Pump (which is fairly noisey).

Can anyone please help us.

Thanks

I have not cleaned the Idle Control Motor. I am sort of new to this, so how would you suggest cleaning it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much for your reply.

You need to remove it,( get a gasket first for re-installation). Between the two mounting holes there is access to the pintle on the inside. Spray it down liberally with intake cleaner. Let it dry and reinstall it.

I do recommend however getting the code numbers and we may be able to help further.
