I have an oxygen sensor code 172 by using analog voltmeter. Book says oxygen sensor right side lean condition. Is that the sensor where the exhaust connects to the manifold close to the radiator. do you go by looking at the front of the engine to determine right or left. Engine is running correctly no missing. Or do I have to check fuel injection or check spark plugs.

thank you

tranny is the back of the engine, the side up against the firewall is usually the right side exhaust manifold. to make sure, switch the o2 sensor with the other one, if problem moves then you found the right one.

I already replaced the oxygen sensor on the firewall side. I still have the engine light but it goes on and off now. The engine light used to stay on all the time. I was wondering if the new sensor is working correctly. I bought a bosch sensor from napa. I also had some problem with the electrical connector and I was wondering if on the switch part of the sensor has to bewired only 1 way.
Thank you

you may want to go with a new wiring harness if you have already changed the sensor.

flip the sensors with the one you know works, if that one doesnt work either in that slot then it is the wiring harness, if it works its the sensor.

I will flip the sensors I was wondering if the bosch sensor is recommended you know how ford is always recommending motorcraft. I was actually stuck on what to do at the end of the day and went out and purchased another sensor.

Thank you
