Hello,
I am trying to replace the EXTERNAL voltage regulator on an 1989 Ford Taurus. Milage approx. 130,000. Engine size 3.0L (I think).

My problem is that I cannot get enough room to remove the lower bolt that holds it to the car. This is because there is a plastic "cradle" that holds the battery in place, and it is in the way so that tools are rendered useless. I looked this up in the Chilton manual, but I didn't see anything about this process.

Google also did not show any relevant results.
How can I get access to remove and replace the external motorcraft voltage regulator?

I can provide pictures if requested.

Thank you in advance for your help,

Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
I already did remove the battery. Essentially my question was in regards to removing the batter tray. However, I was able to log on to ARRC at my local library and it showed where the two bolts are on the underside that hold the tray in place. These are still very hard to get to, and I'm not 100% positive I'm going to be able to with the tools I have, or without removing other parts to get to THOSE. I have to look at the tools I have and see what might work.
