My 1988 taurus has a very strange problem. It always starts right up on cold start and runs excellent. the problem is that after it has been running at full temp and then shut off for about 20 to 25 min. it has trouble starting again. It acts like it wants to start, but dies. If I hold the accelerator all the way to the floor it will start but runs rough for a couple of minutes. If I let the car sit for 40 minutes or so instead of 20 to 25 minutes then it starts fine.
Here is what has been replaced: air charge temp sensor, idle air control valve, engine coolant temp sensor, oxygen sensor, fuel pump, cap and rotor, plugs, purge canister, fuel pressure regulator, fuel filter, and MAF sensor. My local mechanic is at a loss as to the problem. Please help. This is very frustrating, but there has to be an answer.
I should also note that when the problem occurs there is a loud gurgling, grunching sound from the fuel tank.
I know the car has a lot of miles on it, but it doesn't use any oil or blow any smoke, no knocks or noises. Other than the stated problem the car runs great.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks, Danny.
