Special Tool Required?

I wanted to replace the waterpump in my ford ranger, but am told that to do this i need to remove the fan. To remove the fan I need a special tool. Is it possible to remove the fan with normal tools or do I have to purchase the 'fan clutch service kit' at a cost of approx. 75.00? How difficult is it to use another tool?

I'm not sure about using regular tools, but check with your local Autozone. They have a parts loaner program(loan-a-tool), where you put a deposit on speciality tools, use them, then get the full deposit back.
