Blend door actuator not working properly

I have a 1996 Ranger with similar problem. My temperature switch seems to have only two settings, cold and hot. It does not matter what the selector knob is set to (ie. non-AC setting), if I turn the temperature switch to the blue area (cold), I get AC air (not just cold air from outside, but AC air). Recently, it has started acting even goofier. The only way to get AC air is in the "Max AC" setting. All other settings give me heat, regardless of the temperature switches setting. Have you had any luck figuring out your problem? It might help me figure out what is wrong with my truck.

I have a 1998 Ranger with the same problem.

I am attempting to fix mine this way. Almost got it, just needs a little tweaking as to where to put the pin.

Sure, drive away. Mine has been unplugged while I have been trying to fix it (still trying to find the perfect place for the "pin" and no time to do it). Since that piece is broke on the blend door it does not matter whether or the actuator it is plugged in or not. Everything in mine is the same as it would be if it were plugged in.

The temperature is controlled by the use of an air mix door that is operated by an electric motor/actuator. This door can be jammed or the actuator can be inoperative or have stripped plastic gears internally.
