98 Ford Ranger 4.0 with 88,000 miles. I was having a droning noise that occured with a cold air intake. The sound only occured with hot outside temperatures and ac running, and while idling or coasting at a slow speed. I replaced the cold air system with the stock filter, since that used to stop the drone. Now my truck is STILL droning, even after the change. The sound is less bothering, but it is still noticeable. My main concern is if I did damage to my truck by driving with the noise for so long, since the stock system is now droning. I would like to keep the cold air system on, but if I could get rid of the noise, I would settle for stock. I've heard about a way to reset the throttle that cured a droning noise with a K&N filter, but I can't remember how it was done. Again, I have tried different filters and they all drone, so the problem lies somewhere in my truck. The main thing I want fixed is to get rid of the noise, and I am willing to live with stock if that can be accomplished?
