Cruise control suddenly stopped working

Are the brake lights working? Also, does the cruise control indicator light flash or come on when trying to set speed? Nine times of of ten if the fuses are good and the brake lights are working the problem is in the clock spring of the steering wheel which controls the cruise via the steering wheel. Yes the brake lights work and no the cruise control indicator light does not light up on the instrument panel when I try to set it.

Yep that is an indication the clock spring has gone bad.

I checked the corresponding cables and everything appears to be working just fine. So I got the clock spring and replaced it (had to remove the steering wheel) cost me $78.00 all fixed!

Ran self diagnosis and it showed two flashes which means bad BPP or bad CPP. How can I tell which switch is bad? So do I have to replace both?

I would be getting the system scanned with a quality scanner to confirm OBD 2 codes, do this first.

Local parts stores such as O'Reilly and AutoZone tell me their scanners will not put out any results without a check engine light glowing. I suppose this means going to the Ford dealer and paying dearly to have them figure it out. Is there a better idea than going to the dealer?

The codes will stay set in the memory until they are erased. Manually you should be able to get a code.

My cruise control just all of a sudden stopped working. I checked all the fuses. What could be the problem?

SW5928 cruise control switch replacement instructions 2002 Ford Ranger w/h airbag.

I would recommend a shop do this job.

Disconnect battery and wait thirty minutes, undo covers on side of steering wheel remove screws for airbag, disconnect airbag, remove screw for steering wheel, get puller, pull steering wheel and remove back of steering wheel and change switches. Reassemble changing the steering wheel screw making sure you torque all bolts to factory specs, reassemble, retest and road test.

Not something for a basic shade tree mechanic IMO.
