my engine just started to squeak today. belts are fine. sounds like it is coming from the rear of the engine. ac is not on.

THere really isn't anything in the engine that would squeak. Are you sure it isn't a belt? If you pour a small amount of water on the belt, does it go away or change? NOTE: If you do this, make sure to protect your eyes.

I have a 2003 Ford Ranger, the same problem is hapening to mine. A squeel is coming from the back of the engine. What was it with yours? Did you ever find out? my neighbor says it may be a lifter in the engine. Hope you found the problem, please let me know.
