2001 Ford Ranger Clutch

The other night I started my truck to leave the store and my clutch pedal seemed to loose pressure. I could not put it in gear while the engine was running. It is hydraulic with no leaks. I can see the slave cylinder moving but the clutch will not disengage. could this be caused by old fluid and/or cold temperature? Or is it possible the release levers in the pressure plate are broke or bound up? I had no problems prior to this night.

I have the same model truck with about the same mileage and I just started having the same problem a few days ago.

If you find a solution, please let me know. I figure it has to be tied to cold weather, since I began to have trouble on the first really cold night this winter.

the problem was in my clutch master cylinder. the night prior to this was very cold and my truck sat outside, hydraulics do not like cold. that mixed with my old fluid i beleive blew out a seal in my master. i have not taken my old master apart to see what caused this but i can tell you how i figured it out. first get a buddy and try and bleed the system. in my case i was not building any peddle pressure, and when i opened the bleeder, the fluid just kind of trickled out, not good. so i dissconnected the line going into the slave and tried to bleed from there, same symtoms. I knew then that my master cylinder was not providing the force required to move enough fliuid to move my slave and disengage my clutch. $45 and about 45 minute install with a good 3 hours of bleeding my clutch is now disengaging and my pedal is stiff, maybe even better than before. moral of the story change your brake fluid (clutch) when it is recommended, i think its about every year. hope this helps and good luck.
