Transmission problem
2001 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Two Wheel Drive

I had a transmission leak from my gasket, there was no fluid above the pan. I dropped the pan changed the filter, and replaced the gasket. It still leaked and I could find no fluid above the gasket, so I thought Imight of torn the gasket or over tightened it. I replaced the gasket and it still leaks and still seems to be coming from the gasket, the pan seems fine.

If you are using a cork or all rubber gasket, good luck. They always leak. You need a composite gasket. It is more rigid and won't squeeze out as easily.

Also, a little trick of the trade is this. (Bear with me trying to explaine it via the net. If you were here I could show you in 2 seconds). When you tighten the pan, the hole that the bolt goes through will bend toward the trans because of the bolt pressure. As a result, it sticks up and can cut the gasket. Take a ballpean hammar and place the lip of the pan on a work bench and tap the bolt holes the other way. That way when you tighten it, it has room to pull before bending in toward the gasket. (I hope that made sense).

Let me know if it helps. Also, I'm not allowed to recommend specific brands, but when you get the gasket, make sure it isn't a cork or all rubber gasket. The composite that I refer to is like rubber and paper combined and will never be folded in the package.

I hope this helps. Let me know if you have other questions.
