Transmission problem
2000 Ford Ranger Front Wheel Drive Manual 140000 miles

Our Ranger won't shift into gear when on. Well it will sometimes to 2nd or 4th only. We had the pressure plate replaced about a year ago and fluid is good. When the car is off, it will go into any gear. This is about the 2nd time in 2 weeks. It has happened before and I wanna say it only happens when it is hot outside.
What could be/is wrong and what should a mechanic look for and change?
