1999 Ford Ranger light ticking from top of motor

i have a small ticking comming from the top of the motor, the truck is in great shape and still runs like new. and the body is in great shape also, i was told to replace the motor by one mechanic but was told to replace the lifters by another? i dont know wat to do, maybe buy a new truck?
