This problem has been slowly developing over months. Crept right up on me. Tried to stop in a little more of a hurry than usual, and was quite surprised to find how hard I had to get down on the pedal. Truck never did really slow much quicker. Now that I'm aware of it, it seems to be getting worse. More pedal travel now. What maintenance problem is about to blow up in my face?

First thing to do is check your brake fluid level. If it's OK then you need to inspect the brake pads and/or rear brake shoes.
