March 2, 2010 failed Smog test with data as follows:
15 MPH: 2095 RPM
- %CO2 - 14.8 meas
- %O2 - 0.0 meas
- %HC - 53 max, 8 Avg, 4 meas
- CO - 0.67 max, 0.02 Avg, 0.02 meas
- NO - 522 max, 82 Avg, 640 meas
25 MPH: 1923 RPM
- %CO2 - 14.8 meas
- %O2 - 0.0 meas
- %HC - 37max, 6 Avg, 2 meas
- CO - 0.81 max, 0.02 Avg, 0.02 meas
- NO - 775 max, 74 Avg, 647 meas
Puente Hills Ford service said that a new catalytic converter was needed. Took it to a muffler shop to do this and they said - no, an EGR valve should be replaced. Suggested to try the EGR replacement first since it is much less costly & then if it didn't resolve it, then go for the catalytic converter replacement (there appears to be 3 converters on my truck).
What should I do?
