I have a rather high-mileage Ranger that has been giving me good service until recently.
The problem is that when I start it, the idle is really low and ragged (500 RPM and below), and then after I drive a short distance (a few hundred feet to a stop sign) the engine will die when idling--including while still rolling up to a stop sign. It may do this twice, and sometimes it is very, very difficult to start again. The engine turns over fine, it just doesn't seem to have any ignition.
I read out the engine trouble codes, and it gives a few different answers. The O2 sensor behind the catalytic convertor it says is bad, and also says the heating element is bad on the other two.
It also says the EGR has "insufficient flow", but I am not sure if this could be caused by having three (!) bad O2 sensors.
For what it's worth, I also get some trouble codes that don't seem to make any sense--C0000, B0000, etc.
Could this be as simple as replacing all the O2 sensors, or do I have a bigger problem?
