my 1995 ford ranger with 130000miles has a wierd rattling problem in mid area of the exhaust. when ever i rev my engine up kind of high something starts to rattle inside of the exhaust but i dont know how it got in there. i dont want to have to take it in to get it fixed and i dont know what it is. is there any ideas of what it could be and how i can get it out

What you are describing, if not an external heat shield will be the "bed" or internal part of the catalytic converter has broken up and is the pieces that are rattling! Check the welds on the converter heat shields first, then rap on the converter and the pipes with a rubber mallet, you will hear whats wrong then....

Depends on whats going in...a direct fit requires the entire piece to be removed, a universal, you use a sawzall, cut right before and after the converter, then weld the new one in...if you have determined it's the converter.

so i have not exactly determined that it is the converter and even if it was i cant weld because i do not have a welder or a license. would it just be easier to just replace my whole exhaust?
