1993 Ford Ranger

I am borrowing a friend's truck and the spare has been in the back of the bed. I am trying to return it to where it belongs - mounted under the bed. I've managed to get it back but I can't tell if it's right and definitely can't tell if it's secure.
How can I be sure it's right? It seems the tire's weight is all that's holding it up on two braces that come together like two Cs holding each other...
I'm a 35 year old clueless girl... I appreciate any help I can get! Thank you!
