1989 Ford Ranger noisy lifters

1989 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Automatic

Have a 2.9 V-6 one lifter clacks on occassion but not all the time. any ideas to quieten them down.

Try adjusting the valve clearance on that cylinder-see below

Thanks for your advice, but 2 local mechanics tell me you cannot adjust the valves on the 1989 2.9. So now what. thanks again
