Transmission problem
1988 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual

I was parked on a steep hill with my ranger and i had the E brake on and put it in first gear. i then was transferring my foot from the brake to the gas and slowly removing my foot from the clutch, the engine ran loud and i started to smell a burning rubber or fluid from the engine.

I tried to drive it home and couldn't go faster than 35mph as well as the clutch seemed to not be really effected in gears 2-5. it seemed to work best in first and reverse. i also noticed that when I put it into gear, and remove my foot from the clutch i can press the brake and the vehicle doesn't stall on me. the vehicle still runs

I am trying to figure out what i need to fix before spended tones of money. i want to try and fix the problem myself, while using my chilton book, but the book is only for replacing not a book to show what wrong. can you help me? and every idea would be helpful. thank you

Hi there,

Sounds as if you have burnt out the clutch.
