Transmission problem
1987 Ford Ranger 6 cyl Four Wheel Drive Manual 237xxx miles

Truck drives fine back in forth to work (30 miles daily). When I use the clutch alot for stop an go. But more so when I haul a heavy load the clutch seems to slip at first then, not stay engaged.Like I have completely lost the clutch. I select any gear with no grinding but when I let out the clutch there is nothing. If I let it sit for three or four days then it works fine again. I'm lost??

Honestly, it sounds like the pressure plate is bad and not allowing the clutch to engage. That is where I would start.

I reread my message, I left out some important info. The first statement is correct, but, when I check the hyd. fluid in the slave cylinder resevoir it is way down to the bottom, when the truck sits for threee to four days it is back up to the proper level. Is this cause by a bad slave cylinder? sorry for the left-out info. bob. The local shop wants 450.00 the change it. is that right? How hard is it to change? tks
