Car sat idle for over 2 years. Car started twice just prior to repair work. Replaced timing belt, water pump, fuel and air filters and put fresh gas in tank. Can hear fuel pump running when ignition turned on. Had fuel flow when fuel filter changed. Ignition has good spark and timing seems close when checked statically. Inertia switch checked, reset and plug removed and reinstalled to confirm good connection. Battery good. Fuel cutoff light stays on and engine will not start.

Hi wnaigle and welcome to 2carpros

Had fuel flow when fuel filter changed.-Did you check the fuel pressure with a fuel pressure gauge conforming it that the new fuel pump is producing the correct fuel pressure.

Do this disconnect the inertia switch and tell me what happened to the fuel cut off indicator light

I have NOT pressure checked the fuel pump output. When I disconnect the inertia swith the fuel pump does NOT run and the Fuel Cutout light is ON.

I want you to remove the inertia switch, check for power at the red and white wire on the wiring connector -do you have it?

With ignition in run I read 5 v across the outside (red and white) wires on the inertia switch connector. The fuel pump does not run, the Fuel Cutoff light is on and I can hear a relay click after about 2 seconds. I fully charged the battery last night and it reads 12.5 v.

With the 15a meter fuse removed ALL dash panel warning lights are out, both with the inertia switch disconnected and re-connected.

If in fact the inertia switch is good, the red and white wire that comes from the inertia switch to the fuel cut off light is shorted. Remove the inertia switch and the fuse then check for short to ground on the red and white wire-and make sure also that this red and white wire is not shorted to the tach meter/MIL/Transmission control indicator circuit refer to the wiring diagram
