1991 Ford Probe just quit working no warning or noise

I backed out of a parking space and put it in a forward (drive or o-drive )gear,it may have been in select(manual)shift mode-and it acts like its in nutral.
--one thing i noticed was the manual shift lite was flashing after trans.failed then it stoped flashing ,that was the only time I saw it flash while owning the car(3 years)
I guess "-HELP-" was the flashing a clue as to fixing it?---Has any one been through this one?---It has [email protected]

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
The 4EAT is a 4-speed transaxle assembly. The 4EAT is controlled by both electronic and mechanical systems. Various sensors and switches allow the 4EAT module to constantly monitor vehicle operating conditions. The 4EAT module is a separate unit on all models except 2.2L non-turbo. On 2.2L non-turbo models, 4EAT module is incorporated with the Electronic Control Assembly (ECA).
Input signals from sensors are sent to 4EAT module and computed to determine gear shift patterns and lockup timing. Four solenoid valves are located on the valve body. Solenoid valves actuate shifting and lockup by switching oil flow through passages within the valve body. The 4EAT module has built-in self-diagnostic capabilities, fail safe operation mode and warning code display for the main input sensors and solenoid valves.
The 4EAT system has self-diagnostic capabilities. Fault codes for faulty engine and transmission sensors, switches and circuits are stored in the memory and may be retrieved to aid diagnosis.
