Engine Performance problem
1978 Ford Pinto 4 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic ???? miles

I have replaced my camshaft,the timjng pointer is obviously bent, when i run the engine, tie timing indicator on the cranshft shows very late (maybe15-20deg.late i;m sure the cam needs moing at least 1tooth but which way? WhenI move the dist. to try to correct it the engine will just rough up and try to quit. facing the front of the engine clkwise or counter clockwise?

Your model is not available in both Ford and our database and I am not able to find any information on the problem.

If the crankshaft timing marks is retarded, it means the camshaft or distributor timing is retarded.

Since the adjusting the distributor advance did not help, you need to advance the cam timing by moving it forwards with the direction of turning.

If the camshaft operates in the clockwise direction, move the cam forward by one tooth in clockwise direction.

there should be a hole in the cam gear to put a rod intot he timing cover or a mark there as well as on the distributor gear to time that and thecrank too. then install the belt and tighten it down
