egr code problem

I have a 1994 cougar xr7, v6, auto, with 178,000 on chassis, around 45,000 on motor. I bought it used 2 mo. ago. The check engine light came on and the codes were 116, and 332. Since then I cleaned the egr valve, since I could not get the valve off the pipe, replaced the egr valve sensor and the egr vacuum solenoid. The egr valve works when I put vacuum to it. The problem is the light still comes on. The light does not come on until I move the throttle.

P0116 = Engine Coolant Temperature Circuit Range/Performance Problem

P0332 = Knock Sensor 2 Circuit Low Input (Bank 2)

What is the reason for the question on the EGR valve?

I was told 332 was bad egr valve or its not opening. After reading your question I see its not. Im not familiar with the problem you said. Im getting a temp. sensor today. What is that lean bank thing all about?

On the left side of the page is a blue bar full of usefull links. One of these links is entitled "trouble code tables". It lists the OBDII trouble codes and there meanings.

Hopefully the new coolant sensor will help your issues. Be sure to check the connector also the coolant level.

PO332 is for the knock sensor on one side of the engine. See your service manual for which side.

A knock sensor detects detonation in the combustion chamber and the computer adjusts the ignition timing to compensate. Symptons can include poor gas mileage, poor power, all the way to engine damage.

Check the connector, wiring, installation torque, and the sensor itself. Too tight or too loose will cause false readings so installation torque is critical.
