I have a Ford 1982 E-Van straight six. I had a real scare the other day and thought that I had blown a head gasket . . . after getting the engine to purr like a kitty. But, when I checked the engine compression readings and they were; CYL 1, [b:2be1c13469]135[/b:2be1c13469]; CYL 2, [b:2be1c13469]132[/b:2be1c13469]; CYL 3, [b:2be1c13469]129[/b:2be1c13469]; CYL 4, [b:2be1c13469]137[/b:2be1c13469]; CYL 5, [b:2be1c13469]140[/b:2be1c13469], and CYL 6, [b:2be1c13469]138[/b:2be1c13469]. Are these good readings for this type of engine? I was thinking to also check the head bolts and make sure that they are tightened to spec.
The scare was this . . . while I was driving a short distance, the engine just threw off the water pump/alternator/crank pully belt. The water came out of the coolant reservoir and leaked at the radiator. However a close inspection of the radiator shows it might be a loose belt---haven't had a chance to check it out yet. I have a hunch that the water pump pully may be the cuprit for throwing the belt, but I haven't been able to prove that yet.
Thanks for any advice and help you can be. :D
