a few weeks ago the engine on my explorer sport trac was whining it sounded like a pulley was going bad & after a little while it stopped, but now if im coasting below or at 1500 rpm the engine will get stuck at 1500 rpm & just make a lot of noise just burning gas. what is going on & how do i fix it?

I don't think the two are related, just coincidence. The noise was probably a belt noise, or alternator with a load on it. The high idle is probably your throttle cable sticking or binding a little, or you have a bad, or out of adjustment TPS. ................mickey-d

I would take it to a parts store and have them scan it for codes. Most places will do that free of charge, hoping you will buy the needed parts from them. Good luck.
