I have a 1989 Allegro motorhome with a Ford 460. I have replaced the thermostat with a 160 degree stat , made sure that good air moves through the radiator and the temp gage still raises to 230 degrees. When I drain some collant out to check the temperature it checks 195 degrees. These tests were done while sitting in the yard with a high idle. usually going down the road it will take about 30 minutes to achieve 230 degrees on the temp gage. How can I get the temp to come down?

is the water pump functioning properly? check by when the e ngine is hot and running pinch off the upper hose then release, it should become pressurized and you should be able to feel the coolant rush by when releasing.

is the fan shroud and good shape and the radiator fins clean? maybe need a coolign s ystem flush, is the cooling fan running good?

Does anyone know the CFM rating on a 21" 5 blade fan that is used on a Ford 460. I am trying to use an electric fan in place of the standard fan. The air has to pass through the radiator, ac cooler, and oil cooler.
