Engine Performance problem
1978 Other Ford Models V8 Two Wheel Drive Automatic unknow miles
My truck stalls or hesitates, sputters, sometimes backfires at around 40 to 50 mph. I can let off the gas and usually it will idle down and I can accelerate again. I've checked the plug wires, plugs, distributor, coil and could not find a fuel filter anywhere from carb inlet to gas tanks, so I installed an inline filter. I have 2 gas tanks and sometimes can switch from the auxilary tank to the main and it seems to act better for a moment, but then the same problem. An 'import' mechanic said I have carb problems while another said I should check to see if the tanks have filter screens in them where the fuel line go's in. Sometimes it even does this at lower speeds. Any suggestions on what I should do? It has an edlebrock 4 barred carb.
