1972 Other Ford Models engine won't crank? It only "cli

if the solenoid is clicking. check that power is passing to the starter contact, if not check connections & solenoid.

Hello Mark,thanks for the input, however, when I turn ignition on, engine still won't "crank-over" it just clicks each time? Battery is totally "charged" and juice flows between soleniod and starter! I have already "back-tracked" and "Trouble-Shooted" from (1)Starter (2)connections/wires (3)Soleniod (4)Battery! I was thinking, Having done all that, maybe the (ignition-switch) might be the problem?

I am almost to my end of Mechanical knowledge concerning car repairs??? Can you help me???THANKS

OK lets step by step this and don't presume that something is OK because it is new.

Check power at the remote solenoid with the key on crank.

If solenoid "clicks"it is powering up.

Check 12 V at in put & out put terminals of solenoid with key on crank.

No power faulty solenoid.

Check for 12V at starter main terminal.

12V at terminal & no crank faulty starter or locked up engine.

One question. You new starter is a remote solenoid type ( no small solenoid on top of new starter) because if you have a modern type starter fitted the remote solenoid will not work to energize this type of starter. you will need to do a re wire mod. (easy)

Mark, Thanks for getting back to me so quickly? I'd like to say that my friends ford was working fine until suddenly, the car wouldn't start, just click? well, it just so happens that the car has (2)two Soleniods, (1) one on top of "fenderwall" next to battery and the other soleniod was on the starter when I bought it? So, I needed to be sure that All-my-wires went back-on the "new starter" just the way they came off the old starter? I even took a picture of everything before I began? haha "All that to no avail"??? Back to your email, I am going to follow your advice! I have a (Volt/Ohlm meter) soI'll get back to you soon. ok

Hi there,

If your starter has a in built solenoid, there will be a small terminal on this solenoid, jump power to tis and if it clicks let me know and i will advise on the re wire to get it sorted.
