stuck in park?

Are you saying the shift lever will or will not move out of park?? Do the brake lights work??,, I'm not overly familiar with 04's, but the brake light switch also controls the release of the trans shift lever..

My wife's mustang 95 would be very hard to shift into gear when it was cold but would shift when warm.
I discover that the plastic coating on the cable was cracked and moisture was getting in and freezing.
I live in Canada and at this time of year it is cold.

I pulling hard on the shifter and it broke the clip that held it in the transmission.

I made a clip up after removing the cable and cleaning the cable. I move the shifter selector and tried it adjust it but can get it right.

I had a 2002 Ford F250 that this happened to. A couple of months earlier the cruise control quit working. Then one morning I could not get it out of park. There is a pressure switch located on the brake fluid reservoir on the master cylinder. What happend was, the o-ring started leaking and the brake fluid shorted out the switch. I replaced it and never had another problem. Ford later had a recall for this item.

On earlier model Ford cars, there was a plastic rod-type piece (that would lift up the mechanism to move out of park) within the shifter assembly that would break and create this problem.
