squeaking crankshaft pulley

I have a 1998 Mustang 3.8L V6 with 134000 miles. I have a squeak that is coming from the "main drive pulley"(crankshaft?) I know this because I took off the belt and started the engine, and the squeak was still there. So, now that I know where it is coming from what could it be and what do I do about it? Is there a bearing in that crank pulley that is failing? I have NO check engine lights on.

You may need to replace the harmonic balance, that's the pulley's name, it's actuallt two metal pieces with a strip of rubber in the middle, does it wobble yet?

No I don't see any wobbling. The squeak just started about 2 weeks ago and I only drive about 150 miles a week. Is this something I could replace myself? I'm a do-it-yourselfer and have a Haynes Manual. Cost, parts?

As long as you check the balancer for a ring gear that operates the Crank sensor, if it's on there, just don't hit it or drop it if you need to reuse it. You will need an impact gun to get tne bolt out! then a balance puller...
