I had to pull the cylinder head off because a spark plug was cross-threaded and it broke off. I took the head off but only removed the sprocket and chain off the cam. Held it the the guide with a rubberband. The book called for taking the chain off the crankshaft but i didn't. When reinstalling the head if I marked the sprocket and cam will that be enough to get the timing right? 2006 Ford Mustang V-6

It is not necessary to remove chain what your doing is good. Get someone to help hold chain while head goes on. Also new head bolts needed.
